Dry Eye

The Problem

Dry eyes are a common condition that occurs when the eyes do not make enough tears or the tears evaporate too quickly.

This leads to the eyes drying out and becoming inflamed (red and swollen) and irritated.

Symptoms can be

  • Feelings of grittiness or burning in the eyes
  • Red eyes
  • Blurring of vision

Although the condition can affect people of any age, chances of developing dry eye syndrome increase as getting older. Also, dry eye is more common in women than men.

Dry eye syndrome may be uncomfortable, but does not usually cause any serious problems. In rare cases, untreated dry eyes can cause scarring of the eye’s surface. This might lead to visual impairment.

The Treatment

There is no cure for dry eyes and some people might have recurring episodes for the rest of their lives. Though, there is dry eye treatment available that help to control the symptoms.

The exact treatment for dry eyes depends on the cause of the symptoms. Those can be the decreased production of tears, tears that evaporate too quickly, or an underlying condition.

There is dry eye treatment available to help to minimize or to resolve the symptoms. Those dry eye treatment options include eye drops, different medications or surgery.

If an underlying condition is causing the dry eye, a treatment of this condition usually helps to reveal the symptoms.

The Results

The dry eye treatment aims to prevent dry eye or to ease the symptoms.
