Can I have laser eye surgery for reading?
In patients requesting laser eye surgery who have reading glasses, there may be options to treat that. That really depends on individual circumstance.
If you have excellent distance vision and simply require reading glasses, then the options are limited. If, in addition to your reading correction, you also have a distance correction, then there definitely are options with laser eye surgery to address that.
With modern lasers, particularly the Zeiss laser which we use in London one can carry out what’s called blended vision. So that one eye, that is predominately the distance eye and the other is predominantely the reading eye, with a good depth of focus, so that blends the vision between the distance from the reading. And in selected patients, and again it depends on the skill of the surgeon and assessing that, the diagnostic laser eye surgery can help you.
