CATARACT
and PRELEX treatment
Biometry
using the IOLMaster
This high-precision instrument is used for
all procedures involving the replacement of the natural lens
with a lens implant (eg. Cataract and PRELEX). Like glasses
or contact lenses, intra-ocular lenses (IOLs) come in different
powers and sizes to compensate for each individual’s different needs. To obtain the best
visual outcomes precise measurements must be taken to determine
which IOL to implant. The IOLMaster which measures the length
of the eye using infrared interferometry is regarded as the
‘gold standard’ machine for biometry, having revolutionized
all previous techniques.
As
there is no physical contact with the eye, this procedure is
risk-free, quick, and involves no discomfort. Three instruments
integrated into one measure, axis length, corneal radii and
the anterior-chamber depth of the eye. Previously ultrasound
was used to obtain these measurements which took longer and
involved the use of an anaesthetic.
Foldable
lens technology
New advances in lens technology allow us to implant lenses
via an incision less than 3.5mm. The lens implant (IOL) sits
in the ‘bag’ that previously held your natural lens
and is held in place by flexible ‘arms’ called
haptics. At Grange Eye Consultants we keep up-to-date with
the latest advances in lens development to ensure we are able
to offer you the highest quality lens, after all it will remain
with you for the rest of your life! We use several types of
lens implant and choose the most appropriate one for your eyes.
