The
CustomVue Procedure
Step
1
If
you are a suitable candidate and wish to have CustomVue wavefront
guided laser treatment rather than standard LASIK or LASEK,
after the initial consultation your treatment will start with
the WavePrint System™. Using this diagnostic device,
a special map will be created mapping the entire optical path
of your eye. The WavePrint Map shows the variability of how
light is focused in different areas of your eye, giving your
surgeon a new level of diagnostic information to personalise
your treatment plan.
From
this map, a detailed treatment plan can be created, taking into
account your unique optical distortions, glasses prescription,
pupil size, and visual needs. The final result is a treatment
as unique as your DNA or fingerprint.
The WavePrint map will also highlight whether or not you are
suitable for laser vision correction. If you are not suitable,
we will explain the reasons in detail, and you will not be charged
for the CustomVue treatment.
Step
2
The CustomVue treatment plan is then programmed into the laser.
The plan is enhanced by the technology fitted on the laser itself.
At Grange Eye Consultants we use the VISX Star S4 excimer laser
which has 3D ActiveTrak.
This
eye-tracker automatically and instantaneously tracks the
minute movements of your eye in all three dimensions during
the laser treatment. This unique feature means you no longer
have to hold your eye perfectly still, but can relax, knowing
your treatment is precisely centered on your eye. Using with
VSS™ (variable
spot scanning) the eye-tracker gives your surgeon greater flexibility
in developing a more personalised laser vision procedure
when pupil size may be a consideration. All this combined
with the WavePrint map helps your surgeon guide the laser
through your treatment plan with greater accuracy.
