Mr
Robert J. Morris
BSc(Hons), MB BS (Hons), MRCP, FRCS, FRCOphth
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
Rob
Morris trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London
graduating with Honours in his final examinations. Prior to
pursuing his chosen career in ophthalmology he trained in General
Medicine in London obtaining Membership of the Royal College
of Physicians of London.
He
completed his post-graduate ophthalmic training at the renowned
units in Oxford Eye Hospital and London’s Moorfields
Eye Hospital. He also spent a year at the University of Iowa
Hospitals and Clinics, one of the United States top 5 training
programmes.
An
accredited Consultant within the National Health Service, Rob
has held a position of Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Southampton
General Hospital since 1991. Within the NHS, he has a high volume
cataract surgery practice and has performed over 7,500 cataract
procedures. He has an interest in squint surgery and is recognised
as a national expert in this field. He is also heavily involved
in training junior doctors in surgery.
In
addition to his NHS work, Rob manages a successful independent
private practice. He first carried out laser vision correction
(PRK) in 1994 and has been constantly updating his training to
keep abreast with the latest in refractive technology. Already
experienced in LASIK and LASEK, in 2002, he was further accredited
by VISX at Moorfields to perform Wavefront treatments and this
technology now forms an integral part of the refractive service
offered in his practice.
As
laser vision correction cannot be used to treat presbyopia, Rob
returned to the USA for further expert training in this specialised
area and now has considerable expertise in presbyopic lens exchange.
He has been invited to lecture alongside the world leaders in
presbyopic lens exchange at international meetings and is now
involved in training courses for other surgeons.
Other
roles include Chairman of the Wessex Deanery Education Committee
responsible for the supervision of trainee ophthalmologists and
The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Regional Advisor for Ophthalmology
in Wessex Region. Rob has lectured and presented papers nationally
and internationally on cataract, refractive and strabismus surgery
and published over 35 papers in peer review journals.
Rob
recently founded Grange Eye Consultants to manage the increasing
demand for more complex refractive surgery. Grange Eye Consultants
has since expanded with service provided across 4 private hospitals
in Hampshire and Somerset.
